On this date in 1979, The Selecter released their first single of their own, "
On My Radio". It was backed by "
Too Much Pressure". Some versions of their debut album,
Too Much Pressure contained the A side of the single. The B side was included on all versions of the album but it was a different version of the song. The single version was added as a bonus track on the CD re-release. Their label? 2 Tone, of course. The single reached the #8 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The band's first release was actually the B side of the joint single,
Gangsters Vs. The Selecter with The Specials. Their contribution was an instrumental called "
The Selecter". The Coventry, England ska band disbanded in 1982 after two albums. The band re-formed in 1991 and have released several albums since then.
