R.I.P. Don Kirshner
Rock promoter Don Kirshner has died of heart failure in a Florida hospital at age 76. Time magazine once dubbed him the "Man With the Golden Ear". The Bronx-born Kirshner got his start during the late 50s with partner Al Nevins and their Aldon Music publishing company, whose roster of songwriters included the likes of Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka, Bobby Darin, Carole King, and more. In the 1960s he married bubblegum to television with two manufactured, semifictitious bands: the Monkees and the cartoon Archies.
Many of you may remember him as the host of the TV show "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert" in 1970s which gave national exposure to musicians such as KISS, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, The Police and many many others.
The Ramones on "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert", August 9, 1977
Track List: Loudmouth, Judy is a Punk, Glad to See You Go, Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment.
